Events and manifestations in Sardinia
Here are some of the most interesting manifestations which are held on the island. Some of them have been recently introduced, while some others have been going on for years, but all of them are set in contexts of particular charm, and offer the opportunity to enjoy different activities:
- Festivalguer Porto Mediterraneo – Alghero (www.festivalguer.com): Festivalguer is a manifestation including numerous summer events, all taking place from June to September in the Catalan city. The programme includes concerts, literary meetings, exhibitions, craftsmanship markets and food stands, all this in a frame of real charm. With the exception of concerts, which are cheap anyway, all other entertainments are for free.
- Musica sulle bocche/Musique sur les bouches – Santa Teresa di Gallura (www.musicasullebocche.it) (august): this is an international jazz music festival offering a wide calendar of events, music performances, theater representations, screenings, lectures, and symposia.
- Festa del mare – Santa Lucia, Siniscola (NU) (www.lafestadelmare.it) (September): international festival patronised by the Italian Environment Institution Legambiente, dedicated to ecology, eco and sustainable tourism, food, renewable energies and the tutelage and protection of the territory.
Every year, Sardinia also hosts a consistent number of film festivals. The most peculiar are:
- the project “Le isole del cinema” (July-August), a festival taking place on four different islands, each of them highlighting a single aspect of film making.
- Una notte in Italia: la messa in scena e la regia. Il nuovo cinema italiano a Tavolara Taking place on the island of Tavolara (www.cinematavolara.it) this is a festival dedicated to Italian films. Tickets can be purchased in Porto San Paolo, and a shuttle service connects the island with the dryland.
- La valigia dell’attore: il lavoro d’attore, personaggi e interpreti nel tempo – Maddalena island (www.valigiattore.it): this festival pays homage to the Italian actor Gian Maria volontà, and it is dedicated to various film characters and protagonists, with symposia and film screenings.
- Creuza de mä: musica per film – taking place on the island of San Pietro. (www.festivalcarloforte.org): music festival dedicated to the film market, with screenings, concerts and symposia. Free admission to all activities
- Pensieri e parole: la scrittura e la sceneggiatura. Libri e film all’Asinara –Asinara island and Alghero (www.festivalasinara.it): this is event explores the relationship between cinema and literature. In addition to screening of films taken from literary works, there are also book presentations, lectures and symposia with the books’ authors. To assist to the events, a boat service starting from Stintino is available upon booking.
- SIEFF Sardinia International Ethnographic Film Festival – Nuoro (www.isresardegna.it): an international film festival taking place every two years, dedicated to ethnographic film production, with screenings, symposia and interventions, duly provided with simultaneous translations. Admission is free of charge.
- Sardinia Film Festival – Sassari (www.sardiniafilmfestival.it) (June): international festival taking place in June, dedicated to young film makers.
- Mediterraneo Film Festival – Carbonia-Iglesias (www.mediterraneofilmfestival.com) (October): in addition to screenings, conferences, symposia and debates, , this festival offers a competition for documentary films and technical seminars, during which a specific geographical area (west area, Balkan area, Mediterranean area exc..) shall be analyzed from the point of view of film making.
